brushes and shiny finish
I've read some of the many comments on which brushes to use and how to
use them and there may not be any settled wisdom on the question of brushes, but I'll ask one more question anyway. I've noticed that my Toko horsehair and copper brushes leave the bases looking duller than the Toko white nylon or the Swix brass brush. I've wondered if the duller finish results from sharper elements in those first two brushes, possibly by causing a very slight cutting or abrading of the base. The skis can be readily brought back to a shiny look with the white nylon brush. Does anyone have a thought on why the bases look a little dull after using those two brushes? I doubt that cleanliness is a factor - I use the nylon and brass brushes much more than the other two. (BTW, I'm told by Tom and Armen that my bases look very good and well-cared for. As for ski speed, I'm a back-of-the-pack skier so I rarely get to glide test against better skiers but in the occasional post-race warm-down with my betters my skis seem to glide about as well as theirs and I virtually never use anything more sophisticated than a low fluoro Swix for racing. So my admittedly un-scientific impression is that my skis run fairly well.) Any comments would be apppreciated. Russ |
