No More Clicker HB bindings from K2...
I'm not sure if anyone noticed (or cared) but K2 got rid of their HB
(highback) Clicker bindings this year. They now just have straps and the original flat clickers. I think this is a mistake, since the performance/comfort of the soft HB boots far exceeded the stiff backed flat plate boots. However, I guess the market is just not there to support two types of step-ins. They must figure that if you want comfy boots, you'll go strap, and if you want step-ins, you're probably a skier convert and don't care about the boots....no more happy medium! I don't want to spark a step-in debate here (last thing we need is another one of those!) but IMHO the clicker HB was the best step-in system out there. Light, simple, reliable & comfortable ...only complaint I heard was the snow clogging in the mechanism which obivously bothered some. For me, it never happened often enough to outweigh the benefits of a great free-ride setup - easy in, easy out, real quick transition if you have to kick on those long Vail traverses and a nice timesaver on the typically short east coast slopes. Have a good one and pray for early deep snow this winter! -todd |

No More Clicker HB bindings from K2...
F2 makes one binding that is step in but with a highback attached to
the binding plate. You'd need Intec softboots. Based on what I've seen of the Intec hardboot system, I'd tend to think that the softboot stepin version would be very reliable, secure and responsive. From the once I tried clickers I seem to recall a touch of slop. No clue if the bindings rock or suck, or if there are good boots with that system around. But, if you really like that sort of setup, it is there. |

They did have a tremendous amount of slop. I didn't notice it until I went back to strap bindings. Boy did my riding improve with a quickness. -- Kevin Morrison Donek Snowboards Northwest Rep 206-227-3073 |

I didn't find any slop at all in the HB Clicker Pros. There are several degrees of adjustment, including bumpers that go underneath the bindings, and I had just as solid an interface as I have with my current Salomon Malamute / Salomon SP6 combination. Of course, when they reduced the number of available boots, I couldn't switch back to straps fast enough... (now a moot point, I'm in hard boots most often) |

(now a moot point, I'm in hard boots most often) I'm still looking forward to seeing the "step-in straps" that Ride was rumored to have next season. I mentioned it in an earlier post, basically a cross between flows and straps, so it is easier to tweek the binding mid run (other than flows which limits you to cranking your highback) -todd |
