Score! $10 carbon skis, $5 carbon poles!

I just got a score on ebay! They arrived. They look sweet!

A pair of NOS Fischer "RCA" carbon skis, classic, soft, 210, from the
Ukraine---$10.

A set of Ukraine carbon poles, as light as my best, unreadable
Cyrillic branding, 160cm---$5.

They both seem perhaps somewhat cheezy construction, but not bad. Just
no frills. The poles have a rather rustically molded version of the
old ergo grip, but look perfectly suitable just the same.

I'm quite cheery right now.

Are these the "UEHK" poles? Can you post pix? Those are pretty sweet
(they are like SWIX team) and are made in Ural mntns.

The shafts are pretty but the grip and baskets are cheesy.

A-ha! These are "Balakovskie" poles. These are very good, too. I mean,
for the price you can't beat them. I have a friend who has been using
a pair for 10 years. Grips on these usually look like Gunde Svan
design grips.

Avoid Russian "SSC" poles and skis.

What were those?

They have what I call Ergo grips---a little shelf for outside of lower
palm.

The other "weird" grips were the paddle grips, eh?

Isn't there another new "alt" grip with a ledge in some other odd
location?

People seem to say bad things about the Ergos but I've had them on my
classic poles for forever, no problem. I hurt my hand with the Swix
2001(?) strap-grip---that's the only grip that's ever hurt me.

The paddlers sure liked the paddle grip for a couple years there. I
kinda like it, too---I recall considering doing classic events with
skate skis using these poles once---maybe Bruce Barton did this. Maybe
he used the paddle grips, too.
