Tele vs AT?
lac.stanford.edu wrote:
_ I would like to get a beefy AT setup this year or maybe I'll just keep boot packing.... Anyway if anybody has any experience putting AT bindings on Big Stix 750's that'd be great or if you just need an excuse to rant until the snow comes, go for it... i presume the 750 is what here in europe is calle 75 (?). then, it's a nice allround ski - you can also use it for randonee and freeride as well. greetings, ulrich |

Not. _ Well, the skis I bought are definitely 2002/2003 skis. In the USA the 74 was a 2001/2002 season ski[1] which was renamed to the 750[2] for 2002/2003, I think it was beefed up slightly as well. Just to confuse things, I'm pretty sure both skis were sold under different names in Europe. I have see it in st.anton last year, it's heavier than old model and more dumped (I haven't skied it). _ I think the english word you want there is "damped". _ Fischer's new big Stix (2003/2004) are radically different from the old Big Stix, they've gone from a wood core to a air/carbon fiber I-beam core. I haven't skiied them, but I've fondled them in the store and they are amazingly light. While sold as an alpine ski, they feel lighter than most AT skis. From what I've heard they ski differently that the old Big Stix and it may take a season for Fischer to tune in the flex. The ski I have had in hand is FX750 if I remember well, and is not light, the R.9 by Atomic was a lot lighter. _ I can only report what I see here in the USA. The new Big Stix[3] is very light for a Fat ski, it's certainly not in competition with AT racing skis or very traditional AT skis. The new 8.4's are lighter than the old 750's by quite a bit ( at least in hand side by side weighing). They feel a lot lighter than many of the skis us Crazy Americans are putting AT bindings on... Of course, I didn't have a scale handy so this may just be my imagination. _ Booker C. Bense [1]- A review of the 74. http://www.couloirmag.com/gear/revie...iews_nov01.htm [2]- Last year's 750. The "tele" version is just the alpine ski with different graphics. http://www.backcountrystore.com/stor...tml?CP=Froogle [3]- These are the ski's that are being sold in the USA this season. http://www.fischer-ski.com/en/alpine...cat=1&subcat=4 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAwUBP1dxT2TWTAjn5N/lAQFUyQP+IpONnYR95V5bvpuyAmgWanuuxVIMCQfU eFdKWPxkQ/k5ZNWqYgehaIgh9VjmjE8qP46mV3vVIg3rjMs0gQEo71EwzCN3 dBwT QY3y0yQ+oxHp7lMg1fvv6KZRuzXHfjmdqF1GqwQwoQw8TZCSPy uV2UNtmMa3Z9mt shYLZw6bKFA= =QlHX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I am fairly sure (though I haven't consulted all my old ski mags yet,
just an on-line source for the moment), that the Fischer 75 was the 2002-03 (and only for 02-03) alpine ski, and that the Fischer 750 was its slightly tweaked (if at all) tele brother (clone?) for that same season. Here's a review for the 75 - seems like it should be fine for just about anything: "More nimble than 84 [i.e., Fischer ski with an 84mm waist], nearly as effective in moderate deep snow, quicker on steeps. Our favorite Fischer All Terrain ski. Manageable at slower speeds, stable at higher speeds. Not a fall line ski, but versatile enough to handle almost anything." |

"Jonathan Shefftz" wrote Here's a review for the 75 - seems like it should be fine for just about anything: Anyone else ever notice that ski reviews are often indistinguishable from a wine tasting? A lively ski, with a sense of humor, a snap at the finish and a strong aftertaste reminiscent of plums and blackberries (when you do your obligatory face plant). I highly recommend it sir. Oh, and they're as expensive and habit forming as good wine too. Or good Bob Marley! DMT |
