More Lies from Snowbasin
As previously reported, Snowbasin Ski Area has, at times, been less
than truthful regarding their published vertical drop: http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...&output=gplain http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...&output=gplain http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...&output=gplain Now they appear to be at it again, however, this time it's not about vertical drop, but how long it takes to drive from Salt Lake City International Airport to Snowbasin. On the Snowbasin Web Page it says: "...and just 45 minutes north of Salt Lake City's international airport." : http://www.snowbasin.com/Main.htm Words of advise to anyone planning on driving to Snowbasin from the SLC airport. My experience is that one cannot drive from the airport to Snowbasin in 45 minutes unless you want to seriously break the law. It takes at least 35 minutes to arrive at the intersection of US-89 and I-84 (Weber Canyon), and then another 20 minutes to get up to the ski area. A more realistic figure is 55 to 60 minutes drive time from SLC Airport (dry roads, no traffic). Yea, I know, what's 15 minutes? Not much, however, it's just another example of disinformation (intentional or not) published by Snowbasin, a Sun Valley Resort owned by Earl Holding. -Astro --- maximum exposure f/2.8 http://www.xmission.com/~hound/astro/03-04/index.htm --- |

My experience is that one cannot drive from the airport to Snowbasin
in 45 minutes At the risk of being as picky as you, their statement is "45 minutes north of the airport" not 45 minutes from the airport. Since you leave the terminal by traveling south first, you make a big U which probably takes ten minutes or so to get to the point that could be measured as "north of the airport". |

Oh, so you're supposed to understand that it's "as the crow flies" and there could be the odd mountain or construction site in the way. I am not saying they (Snowbasin) are not stretching the truth, but merely pointing out how they can justify it in there own minds. It won't stop me from skiing there. Fred |
