Can it be right that 60F and rain is predicted for Quebec City for Wed?
While at the same time that same temp is predicted for Lake Tahoe...just in
time to melt the 2 or more feet of snow at Royal Gorge. I hope this isn't
a prelude to a non-winter.

That kind of warmup is definitely expected for just to the west,
in Ontario, and has begun already. I had a very good 25K classic
ski early Saturday, but it was really slowing up and getting
slushy from the warm ground by mid-day. I expect it will be
down to bare ground by Tues., starting from maybe 20 cm.

But flurries again Thurs., so maybe the timing will be perfect
again. That ski referred to above was at Highlands Nordic, near
Collingwood. They had a surprisingly big crowd by 11AM, but the
time to start was more like 8AM. First few laps were really nice.

Best, Peter

"Simmer", the fifth season of the year, or just the new name for "winter."

5th season.....the in between season of high expectations that get dashed by
mild showery weather. We're waiting for real winter to begin. I think it
might have done that in the interior B.C. mountains and Northern
Rockies...but I better not get too excited.

Not quite that high temps. You can check the weather forcast at:

Under "Central Quebec" the 5 day forcast includes:

- FPCN54 CWQB 162001
- Extended forecasts for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday for central and
- northern Québec issued by Environment Canada at 4.00 PM est Sunday 16
- November 2003.
- ...
- Québec.
- Tuesday..Sunny. Low minus 7. High plus 5.
- Wednesday..Rain. Low zero. High 4.
- Thursday..Rain. Low 3. High 5.
- Normals for the period..Low minus 5. High plus 2.

Not that good for skiing, but quite typical weather for this time of year.

Meanwhile in Alberta, where my sister and mother live, I see that is has
briefly warmed up to a little above 0C- it was -20 for over a week!

There is "fair to good" skiing listed on some of the trails near
Lake Louise:
