Default Skiing in Alpbach

Has anyone been skiing to Alpbach recently?

Have flights to Innsbruck, planning to stay at the Haus Sonnwend;
wondering if anyone can recommend it, or similar c.£20pppn guesthouse.

Any other recommendations of restaurants, ski-school etc appreciated.
Also interested in guided/footpathed walks.

Thanks,

Jane

I've been to Alpbach last season, and the season before. It's a very quiet
village, with just a few hotels and bars.

The Hotel Post has a good kitchen, as does the Jacober. The Jacober and the
Waschkuchl (next door) are both lively bars.

There are just 2 ski-schools in Alpbach, the Autrian Ski-School
http://www.skischule-alpbach.at/ and a private outfit called Alpbach Active
http://www.alpbach-aktiv.com/ . I'd very much recommend Alpbach Active.

The skiing is nice, nothing scary, and the lift system is pretty good for a
small resort.

Skiing is all right at Alpbach. If you have a car, the Wildschönau and the
Zillertal including the Hintertux glacier can be reached easily.

What makes Alpbach somewhat unique: they tried to keep Alpbach what it was
before the invention of mass tourism. So if you want to go to "town" every
night and have a particularly good time you might not like a place that
tries to remain a small Austrian village.

Enjoy your stay, and post the result!
