Checked luggage
Just as a point of interest for readers of r.s.n. I had a request this morning from NorthWest Airlines (NWA) for the MSDS (Materials Safety Data Sheet) for Toko Express Fluoro Liquid ski wax. It came from their Dangerous Goods and Safety Dept. (DGS). NWA had done a Google search and found me. I didn't ship anything by NWA so I asked why the MSDS request. Turns out the U.S. TSA (Transport Safety Authority) found the can in the passenger's checked luggage and pulled it because of the word flammable on it. NWA's DGS is doing a check to see what the flash point is for it (that's on the MSDS). I'm hoping to get a copy to NWA later today (even though it's not my job I'm being nice). Anyway, I though I'd mention this to r.s.n. because a number of other Toko waxes are marked the same way (Helx, HF2, Grip and Glide, etc.) and a number of you will be traveling to races by air flight soon. Once I hear the decision I let r.s.n. know. regards Rodney |

In my day it was sticky stuff in tubes and then white powder in canisters which caught the attention of the Customs staff. Mike |

Checked luggage
The approach I've been trying lately is to put ski waxes (or
wax-substitutes) marked "flammable" into my carry-on (and sharp instruments into my checked luggage). My guess is they're worried about flammable stuff in checked luggage because they don't want a fire starting (or getting fed) down in the baggage hold where it's difficult for them to do much about in mid-flight. But that's just my current guess about what to do for myself. Check the official rules and guidelines -- which could change as the governments and airlines gain more experience. Ken |

Checked luggage
Wow, this helps me feel safe traveling by air!
One person carries the flammables, another person carries an ignition method (err...matches), and there you go. Last year I was amazed that after all the security checks I went through to board a plane to Europe, I found Swiss army knives for sale at kiosk in the boarding waiting area. Sorry that I am a cynic, but there is little to be done to ensure security. Wonder how well Echelon is working these days? Gary Jacobson Rosendale, NY "Ken Roberts" wrote in message ...
