Default Ryanair Checked Baggage Urgent Query

Off to Bergamo in the morning with Ryanair, having booked the flights back
in Feb.

My confirmation says 15kg checked baggage allowance each.

However, the website says 20kg each (chargeable), as from 16 March, they are
charging £5 per leg for each checked in bag. (£2.50 if booked in advance).

I've not been notified by them of this charge, so assume it is my original
confirmation email that is valid. ?

I've already paid £68 for two lots of skis x 2 ways, so I'll be annoyed if I
pitch tomorrow with my families bags, and they try to charge me for baggage
that was included on my confirmation. The premium rate helpline is now
closed, so hoping someone else has already got the answer?

As I got no response, I'll answer myself having done the trip.

They were doing luggage allowances as per the booking date. So pre 16 Mar
booked flights were entitled to 15kg per person (no shared allowance) and
after 16 Mar, if you paid, you could take 20kg per person.

They were being EXTREMELY strict on limits on the outbound - a guy in front
was being charged excess for being 1kg over. Another chap fell foul of the
shared limit. They only had one suitcase between 3 of them, that was 20kg
or so. As he was over the booked 15kg per person allowance, he had to pay
the excess, even though they could have taken 45kg had they each had a bag.

I was miffed when I had to pay £68 for skis and boot bags for self and
spouse. However, my return flights for 4 of us, even with the ski baggage
costs was well under £200 to Bergamo, so can't complain!

Buy yourself a huge wheelie snowboard bag if your skis are 180 or less. For
the £17 each way with RyanAir, I got 5 boards, 3 pairs of boots and all my
gear in my bag. The kids had their own bags but I didn't even use my normal
allowance.
This was suggested by RyanAir at Stansted when I phoned them, and they said
that there is no limit on weight of board bags so pack'em full.
This was in December mind you......
