Question to those who ski regularly
Mary Malmros wrote:
I also do whatever strength training I can without a gym: dips, crunches, lunges, pushups, etc. Do you give the muscles a day of rest before you hit the slopes hard again? I never work out the same body parts two days in a row at the gym but when I take my ski trips I ski 7-14 consecutive days. I know my legs aren't as fresh later in the trip but I hate to give up a ski day. Fred |

Question to those who ski regularly
"Terd Fartingmor" wrote in message ... On Sat, 27 Dec 2003 11:35:13 -0800, "sjjohnston" wrote this crap: "Terd Fartingmor" wrote in message .. . Most construction workers I know are beer-bellied out-of-shape sweathogs. That's because they make students working construction during the summer do all the real work. Not where I live. The unions wouldn't allow that. There you go, the key word "union" worker. Non union workers work twice as hard to make 1/2 as much. Just my 2cents worth... JQ Dancing on the edge |

Question to those who ski regularly
"FHemmer209" wrote in message ... I work out regularly all year with and put more of an emphasis on proper ski conditioning so I am prepared for my three to four trips a year. My question is to ski area locals who ski all winter: Do you work out during the ski season or does the sport itself provide enough conditioning? I lift weights 3 x per week, specifically doing squats and other leg work. I have found the extra strength and stamina to be very helpful. It makes the skiing experience more enjoyable when you aren't fatigued. det |

Makes sense. Alpine skiing is anaerobic. Really? I would have thought it was aerobic... Nope. Aerobic activities involve steady levels of exertion, anaerobic activities involve bursts of high-intensity exertion. Alpine skiing is in the latter category. How this is relevant for ski fitness: you need a base of aerobic fitness before you can really become anaerobically fit, but anaerobic activities such as skiing develop that aerobic fitness very poorly and slowly. IOW, "skiing yourself into shape" is a lose. -- :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::: Mary Malmros Some days you're the windshield, Other days you're the bug. |

I'd be set for the rest of the winter season. |
