Any tips for getting through the airport with skis ?

Spend 2 bucks on one of those rental carts. Make wide turns.

But seriously, different airlines have different rules for skis. I
know that Southwest airlines does NOT count your ski equipment
against your three bag limit... you can check a ski bag, a boot bag,
and 3 other pieces of luggage without having to pay anything extra.
The 3 pieces of luggage can be up to 70 pounds each.

American Airlines only allows 2 free pieces of luggage, with a maximim
weight of 50 pounds. With them, your ski equipment has to take the
place of one piece of checked luggage, so the most you can check for
free is a ski bag, a boot bag, and ONE piece of luggage weiging up to
50 pounds. United and Delta are pretty much the same. For other
airlines, go to their webpage and search for the "Contract of
Carriage."

And the AA/Delta/United triumvirate scratches it's ass and wonders why
the discount airlines are kicking their nuts in the marketplace....
