would emphasise that you're _always_ on one edge or the other, such

Logical. I did find the modern things very easy, and SWMBO even more so
given her knackered knees.

I learned in Sol (but no, my name isn't Kevin) where my instructor
didn't go in to such subtleties. He was brilliant at getting total
newbies up to stem turn standard in a week though. He took us in to some
really deep powder on our last day in what he reckoned were the best
conditions they had seen all season (March 1987).
