Any other forums worth visiting that are pretty active and unbiased?

Its a seasonal group... volume is usually ok in jan-mar and at lot less
junk than most groups.

Try http://www.goneboarding.co.uk/ there forums are decently active (at
least at the end of last season they were) and I found their gear
reviews to be informative and objective (as far as I could tell).

www.bomberonline.com - hosted by Bomber, but as unbiased as can be.
Lots of discussion of rival bindings, plus other stuff. Extremely
hardboot oriented, of course. Way more active than rss.

Yes, that's forum is ok, although it's a bit UK/ flatland oriented and
fairly young. You do get people there who think the crud at the side
of Xscape is "powder". There are several other uk forums you'll get
with a google or two... looks to me like most people have moved away
from usenet, or perhaps never moved to it.

I like http://www.bomberonline.com, but that's because I've heard all
the kid jokes before and I like riding fast...

Bomber is awesome and very active and while it is not very "corporate"
biased, but I'll bet you find some nice strong opinions there :]
However, again it essentially a hardbooting forum and so all the
discussion about "rival equipment" is not very useful if you don't own
alpine boards, plate bindings, and hard boots. You can definitely use
for riding technique tips and to find out about resorts around the US
and maybe some softgoods like jackets and gloves - but overall I just
don't think it fits for general forum to check up on unless you want to
be converted to hardbooting (if you do... come on in!). It would be a
like a regular skiier going to a telemark forum.

What do people see in these forums? They're slow to load, clunky to use,
the interface is determined by the operator, they don't thread properly.

Is it just purely the volume of traffic? I'm subscribed to some high
volume newsgroups and it's a nightmare keeping up. Go away for a week and
forget about it.

Quality beats quantity for sure (at least in this regard ;-)
