I've only gone skiing twice (once in Hidden Valley, and the other time
the place next to Hidden Valley, starts with a M I think)
But my gf has gone a lot.

We are trying to figure out a vacation for Dec 26th - 30th (I know,
we're quite the planners!)
We can't come up with something less than $1200 each for someplace
warm/beach.

So we thought, why not Vermont.

Any good ski places that I can look into in Vermont. (names, etc)
What else other than skiing is out there?

Thanks!

This early in the season...go North. WAY North. I'd go Stowe.

The week you've chosen is the most expensive and crowded ski week of the
entire season. It's when people who only ski once a year come out to
ski. Slopes are crowded and accomodations near ski resorts go for twice
as much as the rest of the year.

So, my advice would be to plan your trip for a less crowded less
expensive week. That said, this

will get you started.

Lacking that option, there's some things you can do - get out on the
snow early at first chair; knock off for brunch when your fellow
tourists start dragging themselves out onto the slopes around 10-10:30;
come back out around noon for an hour, knock off around 1-1:30 ski again
3 to closing. You will miss the mob that you are part of, actually get
to ski instead of run an obstacle course, and be in a much better mood.
Repeat everyday without fail. Laugh at those other tourists.

Lal's "ski when others are not" is good advice for survival on the high
traffic days. Add "ski WHERE others are not" to the strategy and
holiday skiing becomes much more pleasant. Bump runs, tree runs and
terrain serviced by older fixed-grip lifts are good bets. It's the
green runs that are mobbed Xmas week - head for the more advanced
terrain and you'll find fewer crowds, but watch out for the noobs
straightlining the blacks in a Texas Wedge.

or Jay.

but Killington won't be too bad, and most anywhere may
have really good deals.

Look on the area's website for package deals including
lifts (lessons if desired) and lodging.

I recommend that you take a look here for conditions ...
http://rsn.com/snow/welcome.html
and most of the ski areas have their own websites linked through RSN's
website. My suggestions would be to look at Okemo (always great
grooming) or Mt Snow for the more southern VT areas. Even a smaller
area like Magic Mountain. I would avoid the biggies based on crowding
- like Killington, Stratton etc. If you go a bit farther north
Sugarbush or Stowe, Jay Peak if cold does not bother you.
Look for deals, there may be some who did not get the crowd because of
some economic restrictions. Good luck and enjoy!
