Why don't manufacturers make removeable roof racks? I went to take the
crossmembers off of mine and you have to take the whole thing apart to
do it. Seems like it'd be a simple redesign, and I've heard the
efficiency gains aren't insignificant.

I just throw my gear in the back of the truck and go. Maybe you need to
take the whole rack off and put a differenct vehicle underneath. >;)

I throw my gear in the back of the truck, close and lock the lid, pile
more gear on the roof/tail rack, and get really bad mileage.

Nope. Powder Magazine's #1 Skidmobile. Toyota 4X4 Short Wheel Base Pickup.
It's great for getting slid in up Little Cottonwood in the Alta Parking lot.
Crash in the back and up for 1st Chair in the AM. I love the sound of
2 pound hand bombs in the morning. Got the LEER shell don't you know.

Wait a minute. What does that make my crew cab GMC pick-up? 325 HP,
4X4, electric seats that adjust in every direction, the ski's fit
inside the shell without folding down any seats. As a matter of fact,
that infinity would come close to fitting in the back! :-)

Better hurry. They're changing all of the diesel engines in 2007 to
comply with sulfur emissions requirements and the current diesel
apparently won't work in them (it's illegal to use the diesel I can get
at the Chevron down the street in a 2007).

I'm running a 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4. I've pulled a livestock trailer
through US-40 in fairly heavy snow with no problem. I-70 (my planned
route) was kind of jacked since some rocks about the same size as the
truck sort of went through a bridge somewhere.

Cheers,

Chris

****.

So you're tellin me in 2007 if I buy a used diesel pick up, the engine
will be worthless ?

Diesels are definatly the way to go. I'd like to tow some stuff into
the Uinta's. My current minivan barely (and I mean BARELY) gets over
some of the passes around here. Sardine Canyon particularly...On a
trip over Parley's my stupid van couldn't even maintain going 45 mph up
the hill. Definatly time for a truck.

Ran into Jake Moe the other day. He founded Powder magazine. He drives a
Subaru. As do I.
Anybody knows that Suby's are the ultimate ski vehicle, the most popular car
in the hills.
Trucks are for pussies.

Yabahoobs

No way. Suby's are such a fad nowadays and the company knows it.
That's why they are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Even 4 year old models
with 50K + mileage is rarely under 15-20 thousand dollars. It's
ridiculous. Trucks are MUCH more practical and can haul stuff when /
if you need it too.

1. Suby's a fad? I somehow missed that. Of course, I'm on my third
Sooooooob.
2. Trucks are more practical? Tell me that after you fill up: I get twice
the mileage.
3. Go price a Toyota truck. Then price a Soooob. Which one is overpriced?
4. Real men are secure enough in their masculinity that they can choose the
practical option rather than driving around in something that makes them
look tough.

Nah, the used one should be fine. They just haven't come out with the
new fuel here yet, and using the old fuel in the new diesels is
illegal. Using the new fuel in the old diesels will be fine.

Who drives foreign trucks? About the only foreign manufacturer I'd
even consider is possibly Isuzu and that's just because they make an
outstanding diesel engine.

Subarus are cute little cars and fine for suburban and urban types. I
can hook a tandem-axle livestock trailer to my truck and pull the cows
around, though. Let's see you do that with a Subaru. For me, being
able to take the cows for a ride is infinitely more practical than
taking some skis for a ride.

It's not the same for you - I suspect you live in the city where they
don't have cows.

Like I said, I pulled a livestock trailer through Steamboat and Rabbit
Ear Pass (Muddy Pass, too, but that ain't much of a pass) in a storm a
couple of winters ago because the folks in Colorado had broken IH-70.
The Dodge worked great - not so great fuel economy (about 20 MPG), but
hell, not enough to make up the difference in having to buy a whole new
rig just so you wouldn't worry about my manhood.

Not to mention carting around an entire pickup bed full of tools that
weigh a few thousand pounds. But then one would have to have a skill
and job to know anything about that.

And a sooooooob is probably plenty big enough for little boys to lay
down in the back if you fold down the seats.

That whole manhood thing comes from someone without any. Don't try to

The other 99.9% of the time, I feel better in a Soob and pay a lot less.

And you pay for the privelege. Since I don't need to haul things and I can
borrow a truck to haul lumber, along with living smack dab in the middle of
a real city, I have a small Soob.

God had I known this would spark WW3...

All Im sayin is, the mileage DOES suck for trucks...

BUT if you'd like to do more than drive your ski-vehicle from your
suburban fortress up to the mountain on a snowy day, a Soob isn't gonna
cut it.

Sure if you predominatly do normal old day to day driving you're
flushing some money down the toilet (I doubt it makes up for the
inflated cost of an Outback)...but the one time you'd like to do
something and can't cuz you own a Soob, seems pretty unpractical to me,
let alone frustrating. It serves a different purpose, that's all.

We started driving on the ranch when we were tall enough to reach the
pedals. I like the 5 speed. It's my kind of transmission. I like the
22RE engine. It get's over 30 mpg tuned up. I like the short wheel base.
It's easy to park. I really love the reliability. It doesn't use any oil
between changes. It's the most economical, reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

It's advantages far outweigh its liabilities. I cruise up Parley's at

Clue time, chief. These assholes have committed real life felonies.
Threatened my life. Stalked me to my home and my job. Told the grossest
lies.
Wanna help me out? Condemn the assholes. Criticize them. See what happens
to YOU! Next thing you know, your buddy Bob Thompson will be falsely
accusing you of molesting children.
It ain't poopyface. It is real life crimes and real life harassment.
Got a comment on the kind of freak who would do that over a stupid
newsgroup?

1. This place was much more civil before you reappeared.

2. If they did anything to you outside of the group you should have
recorded it as evidence of your unending stream of claims.

3. You are obviously the instigator here.

4. It's usenet. You obviously expect more from it in terms of
morality and ethics. No one else does. Deal with it.

5. Get a hobby besides your holy crusade against a list of usenet users
(which Im sure Im about to added on to...lol)

6. Why, if they did all this "real world" this...and "real world"
that...would you be here...only to perpetuate your situation? Move on.
Move the hell on. Even rape victims move on. I think you should
too...spewing talk about being a man and such....

7. Seems like most of the people you loath in here simply killfile
you. You're talking to predominatly...air. And at the rate you're
going, Im right behind them.

8. I find it very hard to believe that people would perpetrate the
"real world" crimes you are alleging. What did you do to provoke this
? You've dodged that question for a few days now. No one would just
pick you out of the blue to harass and stalk...You're not the
important...hate to break it to you.

9. In my initial few weeks of reading this group regularly, it seems
these people wanna talk about skiing and living in / around the area.
Why condemn that ? It's what this group is for.

10. Even if they are lieing about what they did to you...MOVE ON.

You've really gotta stop mentioning that you can "kick ass"... No one

It really ruins whatever shreds of credibility you may have in here.

He's well into his fifties. He's been doing this for over 7 years.
Before he was exposed, he'd stalk and terrorize people. He was
particularly nasty to women. He and his buddy Bert would stalk people
to their work places (until a guy named Horvath did the same to Bert
who was then fired). The history is extensive - it's best that you
never post anything personal here. The freak will try to use it against
you.

I have posted much of my personal detail. Since that flies the finger
in the face of Scott's bullying, he says I am lying.

I have never posted anything from or about my employers (four since the
foolishness started). However, I always inform my employer that I am
the intended victim of an on-line stalker in the event anything comes
their way.

Nice try, but imagine a mentally ill homeless guy, soiled, smelly,
yelling how he is great friends to Napoleon, Elvis and James Dean, and
rinse and repeat that for some 8 years on this newsgroup..

If he refuses to get help, there is not much one can do. If he
constantly blusters about threatening violence or imaginary grandiose
imagery of his power, then one should ignore him, or not support his
ideation. I don't who on this NG that posts regularly that hasn't been
threaten by Scooter.

Logic doesn't work with people who come to illogical conclusions, and
it is best to killfile, Scooter, ignore his trolls, or just stay on
subject, which I fail miserably on this newsgroup on all my suggestions,
including this posts.

Many of us have saved some of the more threatening posts and
forwarded them to authorities. It seems that they have spoken to him
and reached an agreement about a line that he doesn't cross as often.
And I understand their reluctance to waste public recources on the
obviously lame and mentally ill. That's ok with me. Just view it as
entertainment. I think that's what most of us have gotten to.

True. That is why it is important to not quote his posts when you
reply. Replying is ok, but if you quote him some of his words escape
the black hole. Everyone knows the same repetitive crap so there is
really no need.

Exactly my point. No one else on usenet expects any morals or ethics from
the participants, mostly because anybody who has ethics and morals left in
disgust. I couldn't agree with you more when you say rsa is an amoral
place. I deal with it by telling you what an asshole you are. Deal with
it, asshole.

No surprise a gutless freak who takes cheap shots on the internet doesn't
like talk about being a man. Mostly because you ain't one.
Clue time. Real man stand up to assholes. You take cheap shots while
hiding in anonymity. **** yourself again, freak.

Provoke? I told the truth. I could care less if you can't believe the
truth: you're obviously a gutless pathological liar.
Clue time, freak. I'm important enough that several of your new friends

you're a gutless freak.

Why not condemn all the vileness of rsa? Oh, yeah. That would take morals
and ethics.

No surprise you want me to stop telling the truth about the stalkers and
terrorists of this newsgroup, seeing as you use the same tactics.
Tell you what. I'll give you the opportunity to move me on in person this
winter, all you have to do is show up. Bring your buddies.

Actually, a whole lot of people on this newsgroup care. That's why they
run. But then again, they've threatened MY life and threatened violence on
scores of occasions. Amazing how you ignore that.
As for 16? You have no criticism of someone who falsely accuses me of

that?

Outright lie. Other way around. As this freak continues to stalk me.

Outright lie. Telling the truth about women who lie, defame, and commit
felonies is not nasty. It is the truth.

He and his buddy Bert would stalk people

Outright lie. Complaining to employers about sick stalkers who lie, defame,
and threaten on company time is not stalking. Making false allegations to
employers and telling horrible lies is stalking, and that has happened to
both Bert and I many, many time. The two situations are hardly comparable:
objecting to being stalked is not the same as stalking. But don't tell this
insane freak the truth: he will simply make up more sick lies.

The history is extensive - it's best that you

Pure projection. Utter insanity. RSA.

Bullying? Another amazing lie. This from a sick freak who made a false
complaint to my licensing agency, encourages others to make false
complaints, posted my home address on scores of occasions encouraging others
to do violence.
One tactic of the stalker is to accuse the victim of doing exactly what the
stalker is doing. As Richard Henry does here.

More bull****. More outright lies. There is no way in hell Richard Henry
tells his employers about what he does in rsa. Because his employers would
take one look and fire him: he is nothing but a psychopathic stalker and
pathological liar.
Laughable. Outrageous lies. Typical of rsa: the criminals accuse me of
exactly what they do.
Meanwhile, not a one of them has any comment on Bob Thompson falsely
accusing me of raping children. Not a word. Tells the observer all they
need to know about these freaks......

Nice to the misfit? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Damn, I'm glad I'm a misfit here.
Unlike Bob Thompson, I have balls. Ethics. Morals. Decency. I sure don't
belong to "us".

And Bob Thompson has repeatedly posted my home address encouraging others to
do violence he ain't got the balls to do. I've given him at least ten
opportunities to meet me on neutral ground in Utah and falsely accuse me of
molesting children.
But Bob Thompson knows the law about incitement. And he knows what would
happen.
He's never shown and he never will.

Reasonable? Amazing. I'm not surprised a psychopath like you finds such
"reasoning" reasonable. It is how a psychopath thinks. It is how a
criminal thinks. It is how Bob Lee thinks, as you expose in your next
laughable lie:

The same sick tactic, the same tired defamation: when exposed as a liar and
a stalker, attack the sanity of the truth teller. You sick ****s have been
doing that for years.

> "The prognosis for an adult suffering from NPD is poor..."

The prognosis for psychopaths is much poorer, Bob. No treatment for you.
You enjoy being an asshole and a pathological liar.
How pathetic. How weak. How Bob Lee.

Nah. You flunked. You were challenged to condemn Bob Thompson for falsely
accusing me of molesting children. Instead, you attacked, lying and
defaming and blaming.
Here is the lesson. You are a sick, despicable, vile asshole. Do something
about it.

Once again, note this freak launches a vile attack and has no criticism of
his friend Bob Thompson falsely accusing me of molesting children.
How sick. How pathetic. How rsa.

molesting children. Make some jokes about my childhood. And I will gladly
move on after that. With great pleasure.

Women, Ashley,

Ashley? Love? Lurleen? I will cop to exposing the ****s of rsa as the
****s they are, but I treated them quite well until they decided to steal
from me, lie about me, and commit felonies to harass me.

As far as

Five people? Care to name them? I sure as hell don't. And I think I have
a perfect right to inform employers when a freak like you is stalking me on
company time.
Amazing how you ignore the scores of false allegations made to OUR
employers. How the sick dynamic was started by David Hobbs and Erik Leonard
stalking me to K2 and lying about me.
No surprise you don't want your employer to know how you lie on company
time.
In any case, freak, how am I supposed to tell your employer when I don't
even know your name?
You truly are insane. Utterly deranged. Take your meds.

How can I sue a sick freak who hides his identity? Bluff called.

I most certainly do. She suborned perjury and supported criminals. She is
a dishonest and dishonorable ****. And I would say it to her face. But
they fired her, from what I hear. I know for a fact that her fellow
officers loathed her.

I can't agree there.

The only condition that a Subaru is unlikely to cut is deep, deep snow
on the roads, and the areas are pretty thorough about clearing the roads
so that the skiers can make it to the mountain.

I've found it a little tough getting up to Cypress Mountain this year in
my Miata (especially with pretty much worn out wide tires on it), but
even then it was only two or three times and I did make it each time.

If I had to pick another car to replace my much beloved convertible, it
would probably be a Subaru Impreza WRX: sports car handling, sufficient
storage space for all my preferred activities (golf, hockey, skiing,
sailing) and all-wheel drive.

That's a totally different concept. The idea of a hybrid is to 1) use
the braking forces to be reclaimed by charging a battery instead of
simply wasting it to friction (heat) and 2) to allow the engine to
turn off completely while at idle. Both these things make the vehicle
more efficient especially in urban traffic, but the idea is
independent of the actual fuel being used. The energy powering a
hybrid ultimately comes from burning something - which could be
gasoline, ethanol, hydrogen, old cooking oil, etc. Right now it's
usually gasoline, but there's nothing inherent in hybrid technology
that demands gasoline, it's just what happens to be readily available
today.

Hydrogen is a good idea, but it's really a different concept than
hybrid technology. Ideally, we'd have both - cars that run on
hydrogen and have hybrid technology.

Of course I'm with Astro here - not a beta tester.

Well sport, when that 2 week old upside down storm gets a critical mass
load on top of it and slides I'm gonna curl up in my Mountain Hardware
Ghost SL bag in the back of my pick up. WyoDOT and UtahDOT clear
roads to ski areas around here. And sometimes that takes a couple of
days or more. There's no substitute for ground clearance either. I
don't need to jack my truck up to change the oil and grease the drive
train.

Great view - uncrowded - convenient to slopes.

Hint: more batteries means extra weight, which means *less* efficient.

There's already a Southpark episode to that effect. There are "smug"

Bob Thompson just repeated, for the thousandth time, the same sick, sad
false allegation of molesting children.
He sure as hell doesn't have the balls to do so in person.
And NO ONE will criticize him. That is rsa: where people lie and defame and
stalk, then whine when you expose them for the pathetic, deranged,
despicable gutless freaks they are.

I've spent about fifteen winters wandering the West in Subarus. Only thing
special is real snow tires, not the all weather crap. Call it a minimum of
a 100,000 miles. Got stuck once, hit some ice and spun out. Never failed
to get through otherwise. I carry chains, as some states mandate them even
for 4wd. Never had to put them on.
Guess I'm just lucky.

Amazing the stories this guy invents. He had a volunteer position with K2
monitoring their web site and the Olin one. He started threatening one guy
with K2 attorneys (without their knowledge-of course). He thought this guy
was harassing him at K2 (but he wasn't-he was just making fun of him on
usenet). This guy contacted K2 about the threats and they were a little
embarrassed - they removed him from the K2 board (volunteer job mind you)
but allowed him to stay with Olin. With the demise of Olin, they had no use
for him but still gave him an occasional pr of skis. One of his more
ridiculous stories was how people cost him this non-existent job but he was
still getting free skis long after the event happened-ask him about the
famous pr. of Morrison's he gave McLean trying to buy his friendship.

Over the course of the next several months, he proceeded to alienate
everyone up to and including an abusive tirade against Tim Petrick
(President of K2) who used to be his "friend".

At no point did I EVER directly contact K2 or anyone else, I made fun of him
only on RSA - usenet. If he says anything else, it's a complete and total
fabrication. And besides me I believe that he directly contacted the
employers of McLean, Kerrison, Hobbs, maybe Bob Lee (actually he had Hoff do
it, he isn't even a man for doing that). And for the record, over the last 4
years whenever I've had the disgusting misfortune to deal with him and his
lies, he has threatened to contact my employer despite the fact, I'm posting
from home on my own equipment (the beauty now is that he has NO idea who
that is and how stupid it would make him look). In the final analysis, don't
believe a word out of his mouth. When you look up Skank in the dictionary,
it's got his picture.

Why would I waste his time? Tell ya what. Next season, I'll set another

Walker, you are insane. Utterly deranged. You stalked me in real life and
committed felonies to harass me. Period.

He had a volunteer position with K2

He thought this guy

Another ridiculous lie. In the insane mind of Vincent Walker, threatening
my life and grossly defaming me is "making fun".

This guy contacted K2 about the threats and they were a little

Another outrageous lie. The only threats were made by Hobbs and his
buddies, and they stalked me without ANY provocation or justification.

With the demise of Olin, they had no use

Another outright, insane lie. Truly deranged. Criminal justification for
his real life stalking.

Translation: Walker made up ludicrous false allegations and vile
defamations. He participated in a criminal conspiracy that repeatedly
threatened my life and committed felonies to harass me.

If he says anything else, it's a complete and total
> fabrication. And besides me I believe that he directly contacted the

What a laughable lie. As for being man enough, I'm sure man enough to meet
Vincent Walker in person. Or any of the other dickless freaks who stalk me.

.. And for the record, over the last 4

Insane. Deranged. From a certified lunatic who has been involuntarily
committed to a mental institution, a criminal and real world stalker.
Hey, Vinnie?
Why not stalk me in person?
Oooops, forgot. Lying and defaming and stalking me while hiding is a lot
more fun, and you don't have to put your ass on the line.

Congratulations, you've just called yourself a pathological liar.

I, on the other hand, don't subscribe to your fantasies.

Alan, Alan. You should have showed up when you promised you would show up.
We wouldn't be having this discussion. Indeed, I'm damn sure you would have
stopped stalking me. The price would be far too high for you.
But you know that. That's why you didn't show up.
What a pathetic, dickless little freak you are.

Doesn't that fit in nicely with tirade #23 (can't use your real name,
if I knew what you looked like, if only I could find you). All of
which he knew about me. Yet................zippo. Anyone that he
throws that **** at please feel free to bring up that he knows all of
it about me and has done nothing about it.

To Scott's "friend",

The invitation still stands. My MSN Messenger is online and you're
welcome to contact me from a brand-new use-once-then-throw-away MSN
account. That is, if you have anything to say without Scott's hand up
your ass.

I never cease to be amazed at the incredible dishonesty of Bob Thompson. He
knows where I live. He has posted my home address on scores of occasions,
encouraging others to stalk me. He has harassed me at my job, made false
allegations to the police, falsely accused me of heinous crimes, stalked me
in real life.
But he's never had the balls to do so in person.
I've set up at least ten meetings on neutral ground in Utah over the years.
Bob Thompson has never shown up for ANY of them, despite being clearly
informed of the time and the place.
Why?
Because Bob Thompson is a gutless coward. Because Bob Thompson knows that
if he wants to falsely accuse me of molesting children in person, the rules
change. He would write a check with his mouth that his ass can't cash.
He's scum. A freak. A stone cold coward. A psychopath. But he is not
crazy.
Not crazy at all.
What a pathetic, miserable excuse of a man. Big mouth on the net, little
pussy in real life.

Why should I ask him to waste his time discussing what a chicken****,
nutcase coward you are?
He'd rather talk with you in person. Just like me. Bluff called. Exposed
as a freak again. The invitation still stands: I'll set up another meet at
Whistler. What excuse are you going to use this time, coward?

Sure, it's not a truck, but mine (Ranger) handles all our gear with
rooom to spare, off-roads reasonably well, hauls cargo as needed, tows
a +/- 4000 lb trailer OK, and gets ****ty mileage. So it does a
pretty good impersonation of a small truck, IMHO.

I won't need one. I'm sure that you'll find a way to avoid it, as you
avoided the last one...

As I said then:

possible for us to meet?'

You offered, I asked for clarification, you caved.

Well, that's what matters, it works for you! I had a Ranger in the
early 90s while I was in the Army. I think it got worse fuel economy
than my 3/4 ton Dodge does now, so I feel for you there.

Still, for tooling around town, I drive a car these days, but fuel
economy isn't one of that car's strong points, either. :-D

Amazing, that.

He says he promises he'll look up someone who just gives his real name
-- no invitation required -- and somehow that's not to be taken as
threatening, but he's going to claim that he feels threatened when he's
*inviting* me to come and meet him?

My daily driver is a Cooper S, which gets very nice mileage as long as
I use a gentle throttle foot and don't run the revs up. So it gets
****ty mileage too.

But don't you make up for the ****ty mileage by only having to drive

I guess that's understandable, but still, I wind up pitying the
drivers more than hating them. My spleen is reserved for such wonders

Heh! I went with the Mustang GT. Someone looked at it and said, "I
guess you didn't get that for better fuel economy." It's really hard
not to give that one the throttle, but I try hard not to chirp the
tires too much...

At least fuel is relatively cheap where I live, as opposed to most of
the places I work. Fortunately, when I'm working, the company is
covering my fuel costs.

Nah, I figure it's their money. They can do with it what they want.
Me, the allure of the HMMWV wore off about the time I was stationed at
Ft. Polk. I just can't expend that much energy worrying about what
other people are doing. Taking care of myself is a full-time

This reminds me of a joke I found in my inbox, please excuse the
formatting and stupidity:

Cardiff Zoo had acquired a female of a very rare species of gorilla.
Within a few weeks, the gorilla became very cantankerous and difficult to
handle. Upon examination the zoo vet determined the problem was the
gorilla was in heat. To make matters worse there were no male gorillas of
the species available.

While reflecting on the problem, the zoo management noticed Gareth, a big
Welsh lad from Swansea, responsible for fixing the zoo's machinery.

Gareth, like most Swanseaboys, had little sense but seemed to possess the
ample ability to satisfy a female of any species. So the zoo
administrator thought they might have a solution. Gareth was approached
with a proposition. Would he be willing to have sex with the gorilla for
£3,500?

Gareth showed some interest, but said he would have to think about it.
The following day, Gareth announced he would accept the offer but only
under 3 conditions:

"First" he said "I don't want to have to kiss the gorilla. Secondly, you
must never tell anyone of this"

The zoo administrators quickly agreed to these terms and then said what
about the 3rd condition???

"Well" Gareth said... "You gotta give me another week to come up with the
£3,500".

What utter crap. Richard Henry repeats the lies of a demonstrably insane

No way. Because if his employers read this ********, and saw Richard Henry
as he truly is, he'd be fired in a second.

Did you not promise to "look up" someone if he just gave you his correct
