Hi All,
Not sure how old is this news, but yeah, they've built it:
http://www.dubai-ski.com/about.html
The ski dome is described as follows:
> Ski Dubai Ski Dome at the Mall of the Emirates
> Location: Dubai , UAE - Exit 39 off Shiekh Zayed Road (when driving towards Al Barsha)
> Pricing: The admission price (for more details on size and price click here: Facility Stats) to the center is rather average according to the western standards and the price of admission is approximately $14 (as of Jan 06) for adults and $11 for kids. Furthermore, should you require access to the ski slopes you will have to pay that luxury approximately $35 (adult ticket) or $30 (children ticket) and this will grant you for a two-hour access pass.

Hehehe, we've talked about and I have poked a little fun at it. I wish that
would have been there when I was over there.
Our sailors now have a chance to ski when in Dubai, they all don't have to
hang out at the City Centre or in Pancho Villa's.
Al-Ain the city I actually lived in had an ice-rink. I have never been into
ice skating but it seemed like the rink was always pretty busy.

You lived in UAE? How long? How were the native people? Like Americans?

Six years from '92 to '98. The locals were okay (a touch on the arrogant
side but the locals from Dubai were more down to earh and much more so in
the neighboring nation Oman) and I never had any real problems with the
fact that I am an American.
A buddy is still there and he said after 9/11 he got more sympathy from the
locals than from Canadians and Europeans.
If Dubai had the ski hill when I was there I don't know if I would have
taken it up. I didn't get into skiing until after I resumed my stateside
residency.
